Alternative sérieuse pour un meilleur support des droits d’usage des fontes. En faisant la promo active du format EOT, issu de Weft qui n’a jamais réussi à s’imposer depuis tant d’années, EOT est proposé au W3C.: Réussira-t-il à s’imposer?

Il est clair qu’avec le support du @font-face property dans Safari 3.1, il n’est pas possible d’employer des fontes commerciales pour des pages web, sachant que les fontes se retrouvent facilement accessibles pour des usages non-prévus par la licence originale.

Des solutions doivent être trouvées, le font-face actuel n’est pas fonctionnel.

Calligraphy and Steve Jobs

Who don’t know this guy?

I found another extract (read the paragraphs here after) from a commencement speech at Stanford University gave by him in 2005. What is interesting for some of us, with strong conection in typography, is that Mr Jobs also practised this art at some point. I must add that Sumner Stone, SumnerStone.html who was the Director of typography at Adobe (1984-87) came also from the same place… the Reed College, and same calligraphy classes by Lloyds Reynolds: “you’ve got a million bad letters in your fist, and the only way to get rid of them is to write them down.” Coincidence?

Never enough?

Some people really like to kept instant access to all the palettes and add-one from their current application on which they are. Jean-Baptiste Levée is one of them and indeed its my favorite topic to tease him regularly. He use two screens with one fully dedicated to palettes, whatever the application he use. Just imagine Indesign CS with all the palettes on the second screen—the one with no menu, as the application’ menu remain on his main screen (very wierd method to me, anyway…).

Today, I found this amazing image from Firefox with two hundred add-ons installed. And indeed I was amuzed by it and pointed it to jbl.

Flock

Flock is an open source web 2.0 browser with many cool features. What interest me is the logotype is set in Costa PTF. They have modified the k long ago and I have proposed them to help 1 or 2 years ago. But we never managed to sorted out this first initial contact. So, they still have a strange k.

iPod, the return

So, after my big trouble last December, I finally received the one that I purchased via the Apple Store few days later. The new was very nice but seems bit slow compared to my 2 previous ones. It worked not at its best also on my Mini Cooper via the Dension product (slow and not very responsive compared to my previous iPod).

The Sync worked despite a message at the end saying there is sync problem, so I decided to restore it yesterday. No way to use the iPod updater, so I used the Disk utility without troubles, but after a full update with all my tunes, images and iCal, address book, etc. the iPod refused to start when disconnected from the Mac: Only the nice Apple icon then the url for the support and an exclamaition mark + a folder then shuting down.

After several others tests, I contacted the support again, and I wait now for the box via UPS to send the iPod back to Apple. I was proposed two choices: Keeping the few customized words on the back and waiting 3 weeks or waiting for 1 week max and lost the customization. Let see the end of this new story. Nice Apple…

update UPS just picked up the iPod on the 11 January 2006.
