The original Sabon Next was designed in Type 1 format back in 2002. In 2006, I have created the Sabon Next Pro version in OpenType, finally published by Linotype early 2008. There is a printed specimen originally created in 2002 by Muriel Paris who will be updated in forthcoming months. So, because as many websites, Linotype current website can’t show easily all options available for the Sabon Next Pro, such OT features and so on, we’ve decided with Linotype staff to put on their website at visitors disposal, a short pdf version (25 pages, A4 format). It will be shortly available at linotype.com.
Until this happen soon, please enjoy it directly from the designer… Click to download the pdf.
Stephen Coles used an interesting metaphor to explain OpenType format for FontShop. His boss already proved many times…
Je ne rentre pas dans les problèmatiques de sens, contenu. Je veux juste saupoudrer votre discussion par des remarques concernant la forme, les espacements des différents signes dans la page, du résultat aidant à gris de texte harmonieux et calme.
Last friday, I have sent a newsletter to my clients and registered subcribed. Better than nothing until I will decide to implement Hot News RSS at Porchez Typofonderie.
Le Monde Livre PTF works surprisingly well on screen. Might add to style sheet: font-family: “Le Monde Livre PTF”, Georgia,…

Well, not yet, I just checked now. Here, Le Monde Courrier PTF, after extensive tests of 2 minutes work better.
ps. Thanks to jbl for the link.

All of this was published back in 2001… but offline for few years. its back again.
Featured here is the first part of a small history of type. This history, normally told from the Anglo-Saxon point of view, is from a French perspective, allowing the reader to form one’s own opinion.
Je publie ici la première partie d’une petite histoire des caractères typographiques, son originalité repose sur le fait que c’est une vision Française d’une histoire le plus souvent raconté par des Anglo-saxons. A vous de vous forger votre propre point de vue.
At a small printer shop during the Thessaloniki type conference, circa 2002: John Hudson, Gerry Leonidas, David Lemon, with Jean François Porchez handling the camera. Watch the video… Translators requested!

Best Wishes & Meilleurs voeux 2008, blabla, usual stuff to all…
No real clear ideas this year, like every past years.
Its really difficult to design something with type and typography as unique tool, quickly I comeback to my obsessions, at least its what I can see. No?
Does bold method differ between Latin an Arabic Script?
For Latin, to my experience, the best is to design a Black rather than a bold and use blend function in FontLab for example. This way you can adjust any time your correct weight for the bold depending of the situation…
Because of a recent revision of my anti-spam rules, I suddenly received an email featuring Dino dos Santos, from Myfonts.com.
(A comment to At last! FF Meta Serif published in I Love Typography.)
First trials on Erik’s blog was quite a nice surprize, The idea was so obvious. With this bunch of designers behind the design, probably no reason to say anything.

Recent things are OpenType version of Le Monde Journal, Endless Story, Henderson Serif and Henderson Sans typefaces…
There is a lot of stone carving letters in Brighton. Its easy, we are in Uk. Edward Johnston and Eric Gill lived around (Ditchling) for years.
There is a lot of type people during a type conference.
Anything related to typography.
Some random images from ATypI Brighton.
For long I was against “local” resellers for Porchez Typofonderie fonts. After 10 years without any of them (minus few very special sales), I finally try and offered some of the font packs to FSI. And only to them because they have good reputation and quite serious. I have no plan to propose to any others.
The fonts at FSI are the same as at typofonderie.com, the packs are available at FSI only in PS format for Macintosh and Windows. There is no plans to have our OpenType fonts distributed by FSI or any others.
Thanks to Stephen Coles for the note about the FSI launching today. Thanks to Petra Weitz to for her big effort to convince me and start to negociate many months ago!
Note to the type freaks: The current nameplate of Typographica is in fact set in a pre-final version of the Parisine Office. The ligatures ra, is and few others details are not on the final version.
