  1. Bitstream offers a family of four Unicode-based multilingual OpenType TT (.ttf) fonts Baskerville BT WGL4 which are based on the Linotype designs of Cyrillic and Greek. Linotype also offers very similar Baskerville LT Cyrillic & Greek designs, but on separate fonts (not Unicode-compatible).

A better Cyrillic companion might be the ParaType version of ITC New Baskerville Cyrillic because the design is more modern, feels less antiquated:

For the sans, I’d recommend FF Meta Pro issued by FontShop International in OpenType PS (.otf) format. The Cyrillic was designed by Tagir Safaev at ParaType while the Greek was done by Panos Haratzopoulos at Cannibal.

The ParaType version of News Gothic Cyrillic might also offer a good companion.

Finally, an early grotesque ParaType face named Textbook could also work though not so much in the italic.

For Japanese, I would recommend a matching pair of Mincho (serif) and Gothic (sanserif) designs. An obvious choice would be Adobe’s Kozuka Mincho Pro and Kozuka Gothic Pro but if the client wants something more distinctive, you could consider Tsukushi Mincho & Gothic from Fontworks or Hon Mincho and Goshi from Ryobi.
