Best type gift ever?
A call to all wifes—girlfriends of foolish type designers. And indeed also to all boyfriends, brothers, sisters, parents (etc.) of type designers and type fanatics in general. Offer to them a couple of kilograms of real lead type. {not me, I already bought some of them!}

Wood Types Plaques
Wood frames
A selection of antique wood types of various fonts and sizes are fitted
carefully into wood frames. Special typographic features vary, but
include elements like a large ff ligature, and a copper-faced 5¢ sign.
Large & Small Brass Matrices from the American Typefounders’
Bankruptcy Auction
Solid brass, some with copper or steel faces
When the American Typefounders Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey
finally went bankrupt in 1993, the receivers held an auction to sell off
the contents of their plant. Among the heavy metal that was sold that
day were literally tons of brass matrices, sold for scrap. However, some
of the matrices were purchased by people who saw their beauty, and
this is how we have this group of matrices. Each matrix has a number
of stamps on it, indicating point size, character number, and (we
believe) the font number, as well as other codes that we do not
understand. Small matrices are drilled for pendants.
