Sabon Swashes?

Sabon Swashes

Looking at some web pages, I recall to cross that page, 2 years ago. I noticed they updated it recently and added the Sabon Next. But what I realised today, is the image presented as historical one from 1965 with Tschichold on it, show one testing sheet with some swashes caps for Sabon Italic: T and J.

Perhaps, I need to do an upgrade of Sabon Next?

  1. Certainly Jean-François. For the users, it’s always interesting to have a swatch style.
Just one question about Sabon Next, the figure zero is very special, thicks and thins are reversed, why and d’où ça vient ?

    Merci

  2. Yes, the reversed zero is simply already present on original hot metal Sabon and as I digitized it in order to make Sabon Next, I kept it as it is for another good reason: It give more counter to the zero and its really usefull to avoid a too large zero for tabulars figures. It became evident on Black weights. Jan Tschichold got a very good idea!

Note that this kind of zero exist also on Garamond Stempel done earlier than Sabon (also Stempel project).
